WSQ Food Safety Level 1

The WSQ Food Safety Level 1, formerly WSQ Follow Food & Beverage Safety & Hygiene Policies & Procedures course runs every Wednesday excluding public holidays. Bilingual classes are available on demand.

This module aims to equip food handlers with the knowledge and application skills on food safety and hygiene while handling, cooking, storing, and serving food and be certified food handlers, competent to work in the F&B industry in Singapore as per Singapore Food Agency (SFA)’s requirements.

Upon completion, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Food Safety Level 1 be able to apply them at the workplace. These include:

  • Practising good personal hygiene
  • Using safe ingredients
  • Handling food safely
  • Storing food safely
  • Maintaining cleanliness of utensils, equipment, and service/storage areas

The course will be conducted in the English language. It will be conducted in person with a maximum of 12 persons per class due to safe management measures.

Participants should be able to speak, listen and read English at a proficiency level not lower than the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualification (ES WSQ) Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3.

We use a number of experiential methods of learning in this module:

  • Lecture
  • Video
  • Demonstration / Practice
  • Group discussions
  • Role-plays

Participants are required to undertake assessments which may take the form of:

  • Oral questions
  • Direct observation of practical performance
  • Multiple-choice questions
