WSQ Food Safety Level 1 (Refresher)

Refresh your knowledge to uphold the standards of food safety and hygiene in food establishments in Singapore. This training aims to uphold and ensure continual awareness of good hygiene practices by food handlers.

Upon completion, participants will refresh their knowledge and understanding about the mandatory requirements by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to be certified food handlers to work in the F&B industry in Singapore.

Topics are as follow:

  • Practise Good Personal Hygiene
  • Use Safe Ingredients
  • Handle Food Safely
  • Store Food Safely
  • Maintain Cleanliness of Equipment and Premises

Starting from 1 October 2014 as per regulatory requirement, all certified food handlers are required to undergo the Refresher Food Hygiene course as per the following table:

Refresher Training Compliance
1st Refresher Training By 5th year from the date of first passing the Food Safety Course Level 1
2nd and subsequent refresher training Every 10th year from the date of passing the last refresher course

As Food Safety Level 1 certificates are valid for 5 years upon completion. After completing this Food Safety Refresher course, the certificate will be valid for 10 years.

Participants should be able to speak, listen and read English at a proficiency level not lower than the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualification (ES WSQ) Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 3.

A copy of the Basic Food Hygiene Course certificate awarded by any ONE of the following:

  • Singapore SkillsFuture Singapore under the WSQ framework.
  • Singapore Food Agency (SFA)
  • Ministry of the Environment

Note: NEA continues to recognize the Refresher Food Hygiene Course certificate awarded by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) from Oct 2010 to Jun 2014.

  • Lecture

  • Demonstration / Practice
  • Group discussions
  • Role-plays

Participants are required to undertake assessments which may take the form of:

  • Short-answer questions
  • Direct observation of practical performance
  • Multiple-choice questions
